As Microcephaly Rises in Haiti, Doctors Fear Zika Is A Sleeping Giant

. . . Chinashama is one of three babies born with microcephaly at the Mirebalais Hospital in July. The Haitian Ministry of Health says there have been 11 others born nationwide over the last two months with this usually rare birth defect. But only one has been officially confirmed as a result of the Zika virus.

The Horrible Mosquito

Haiti has at least four vector borne diseases that I respect and fear. And the mosquito happens to be the vector that carries the germ that causes these diseases.

Malaria. Dengue. Chikungunya. Zika.

When chikungunya hit Haiti a couple of years ago I didn’t know anyone who had NOT suffered from this painful disease.

And now the disease-du-jour in Haiti (and everywhere else) is Zika.
